Looking Back: 2015 Reflections.

2015 had definitely been a year of abundant and different technological advances. But what are those that have been most innovative and groundbreaking in 2015, and those we should watch out for, for the coming year? Topping the list of most innovative companies is Tesla Motors, emerging not just as a new major car company but producing electric cars and pulling it off amidst present industrial challenges, putting the vision of Elon Musk well ahead of incumbents in energy and automotive. Next is Salesforce.com, an industry-leading CRM platform, and third, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, known for developing drugs to combat rare diseases.

On the other hand, our top 3 technological breakthroughs are comprised of Magic Leap, Nano-Architecture, and Car-to-Car Communication, respectively. Car-to-Car Communication is a “simple wireless technology [that] promises to make driving much safer[1]” while second is Nano-architecture, breaking through with the help of Caltech materials scientist Julia Greer, who created a strong and light ceramic using 3d nano-architecture. Topping the list is of course Magic Leap, an augmented reality startup working on a product that projects 3d image on real-life objects.

Now that we know the best performers of the past year, who should we be keeping an eye on for in 2016? First on the list is Mycroft AI, an open source, open hardware product. This means, not only can you use its native features and skills, but you can also add your own features over time. Next is Remix Mini Computer from Jide, the world’s first true Android PC powered by Remix OS. Lastly is Jibo, the world’s first social robot for home.
