Innotribe: FinTech Startups Will Change Banking & Finance.

Later this week I'll be judging at Innotribe's Startup Challenge as it passes through Singapore. The Challenge Showcase is a ½ day event, featuring fast-pace pitches by 15 regional semi-finalists: 10 startups and 5 innovators selected by a panel of expert judges from over 170 applicants. The Singaporean leg is run in conjunction with NUS's Innofest. 2013_SG-Banner-640x250 Last year's winner of the global challenge was none other than my personal favorite, PlayMoolah, the online financial literacy games built for children and parents. It is a fun way to learn and teach children about managing money. Where I sit on their Advisory Board. playmoolah-innotribe-startup-challenge This years semi-finalists are for the Startup Challenge has a number of hot startups fighting for honors: Launched by SWIFT, the Innotribe Startup Challenge introduces financial industry decision makers and early-stage investors to the emerging innovations poised to transform the financial services industry. The Challenge is a year-round program that features three regional showcases in the US, Asia, and Europe where participants gather for fast-paced company pitches, insightful discussion of emerging innovations, and social networking events. At the Showcase, a select group of investors and financial industry executives will join in exploring the latest trends in financial industry innovation, build relationships with other leading executives and help determine which regional semi-finalists will be invited to compete in the Challenge Finals at SIBOS for global exposure and cash prizes of $50,000. Thanks to the generous support of Level39, HP, Invest NI, Sberbank and SWIFT, there is no cost to attend or for presenting companies. It's great to have InnoTribe back in Singapore, as we search for great innovators and entrepreneurs that can progress the FinTech space. Something that has been rather weak in Singapore given its thoroughbred status amongst the world's financial cities. It's through events like Innotribe's Startup Challenge, that we can create a true platform for startups to have access to an industry that tends to put up huge concrete walls that only the large IBM, HP and SAP's of the world can claim. Running a startup is tough. Something I can relate to personally. So I'm looking forward to help this batch of Semi-finalists develop and look to the future.
